Structural Engineer

AECOM

Job Description: Structural Engineer

Are you ready to leave your mark on the skyline of the UAE? AECOM is seeking a seasoned Structural Engineer to join our Buildings & Places team in Abu Dhabi. AECOM isn’t just a firm; it’s a global powerhouse where the world’s most complex infrastructure challenges are solved.

In this role, you will be the primary technical authority on-site for structural works. You will bridge the gap between complex design theory and real-world construction execution, ensuring that high-rise residential and commercial icons are built to the highest standards of safety and quality. From unboxing the first set of record drawings to the final snagging and handover, you will lead the structural inspection team and serve as the expert voice in progress meetings.

Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Supervision: Oversee all structural aspects of large-scale building projects, ensuring total compliance with contract documents, international codes, and quality standards.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and direct a team of structural inspectors, conducting weekly coordination meetings and auditing their inspections for accuracy.

  • QA/QC Management: Identify engineering violations on-site and issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when necessary to maintain project integrity.

  • Problem Solving: Interpret and clarify complex contract documents for contractors and work closely with Design Engineers to approve modifications or resolve site discrepancies.

  • Project Administration: Prepare high-level progress reports, maintain material accounting records, and manage change orders and record drawings.

  • Handover & Snagging: Lead the monitoring of snagging lists and coordinate the structural handover process to the client.

  • Safety Advocacy: Actively monitor Health and Safety on-site; you are empowered to stop construction works if unsafe structural practices are identified.

Your Technical Expertise

  • Industry Focus: Extensive experience in High-Rise Residential and Commercial buildings.

  • Code Mastery: Deep understanding of international structural codes (ACI, AISC, BS) and local Abu Dhabi authority requirements.

  • Methodology: Well-versed in structural installation sequences, manpower allocation, and the specialized equipment used in mega-projects.

  • Consultancy Background: Proven ability to work on the consulting side of the industry, managing the delicate balance between the contractor’s progress and the client’s specifications.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering. A Master’s degree or membership in a recognized professional institution (e.g., IStructE) is highly preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of demonstrable experience in structural design and site supervision, with a significant portion of that time spent on large-scale projects in the Middle East or UAE.

  • Soft Skills: High-energy leader, excellent communicator in English, and a collaborative team player capable of making firm decisions under pressure.
