Are you a clinical professional with a “gentle touch” and a commitment to diagnostic accuracy? American Hospital Dubai is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our world-class Laboratory team.

As a Phlebotomist at American Hospital, you are the critical first link in the diagnostic chain. You will be responsible for obtaining high-quality specimens while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Working within a framework of JCI and CAP standards, you will manage everything from routine venipunctures to specialized pediatric collections, ensuring that every sample is handled with the aseptic precision required for accurate laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: Perform expert venipunctures, fingersticks, and infant heel pricks. You must identify the best method for retrieval based on the patient’s age and physical condition.

• Patient Verification: Maintain 100% accuracy in patient identification by cross-referencing requisitions with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and physical ID markers.

• Integrity & Asepsis: Use strict aseptic techniques to maintain specimen integrity. This includes following specific isolation procedures and departmental protocols to prevent contamination.

• Specimen Processing: Accurately label, date, and time-stamp vials. Prepare all specimens for safe transportation to the main lab, ensuring they match the patient records perfectly.

• Troubleshooting: Resolve unusual or conflicting test orders by coordinating with physicians, pathologists, and nursing stations before proceeding with a draw.

• Quality Control: Maintain quality-control logs and track daily collection tallies. Report any discrepancies or required changes in protocol to the supervisor immediately.

• Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to the professional standards set by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Joint Commission International (JCI), and College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: * Diploma in Medical Laboratory or Phlebotomy, OR

  • Completion of an approved certified phlebotomy program, OR

  • Certificate in Health Science (minimum 1-year duration).

• Licensure: Must be a Dubai Health Authority (DHA) certified Phlebotomist.

• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience as a Phlebotomist in a clinical or hospital setting.

• Technical Skills: * High manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination.

  • Expertise in various puncture techniques for different patient demographics.

  • Strong knowledge of testing protocols and medical equipment safety.

• Communication: Fluency in spoken and written English is required to coordinate with medical staff and patients.
