Job Description: Online Carnatic Singing Tutor (Intermediate Level)

Are you an expert in the intricate ragas and talas of South Indian classical music? UrbanPro.com is seeking a dedicated and qualified Carnatic Singing Tutor to provide high-quality, private online instruction for a talented young learner in Abu Dhabi.

This role is designed for a patient, child-friendly educator who can engage a student in the 5–13 age group. Since the student is already at an intermediate level, you will move beyond the basics, focusing on refining their gamakas, expanding their repertoire of varnams and kritis, and introducing the early stages of manodharma (improvisational music). Key Responsibilities

• Customized Intermediate Instruction: Transition the student from foundational varisais and geethams to more complex adi tala varnams and foundational kritis (e.g., compositions by the Trinity of Carnatic music).

• Vocal Culture & Technique: Focus on pitch accuracy (shruti), rhythmic precision (laya), and the correct execution of gamakas (oscillations) unique to specific ragas.

• One-on-One Mentorship: Provide personalized, private sessions that adapt to the child’s learning pace, ensuring a balance between discipline and a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

• Theory & Appreciation: Integrate essential music theory, including raga grammar, tala cycles, and the biographical history of legendary composers.

• Virtual Performance Prep: Guide the student through recorded or live virtual recitals to build confidence and track technical progression.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Musical Lineage: Formal training in Carnatic music from a recognized guru or institution (e.g., Kalakshetra, Madras University, or equivalent certifications).

• Pedagogical Skill: Proven experience teaching children aged 5–13, with the ability to use stories or analogies to make complex musical concepts accessible.

• Technical Readiness: Access to a high-quality microphone, a stable internet connection, and proficiency with platforms like Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet. Use of a digital shruthi box or tanpura app is required.

• Communication: Fluent in English; knowledge of South Indian regional languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, or Malayalam) is often preferred for authentic lyric pronunciation.

• Location/Flexibility: While the lessons are online, you must be available to coordinate with the Abu Dhabi time zone (GST – UTC+4) for a start within the next month.
