Job Description: On-Site Civil Engineer (Assistant Resident Engineer)

A prestigious Global Engineering Consultancy is seeking a dedicated On-Site Civil Engineer to serve as an Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) in Abu Dhabi. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between high-level project management and daily site execution for major infrastructure and building projects.

As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will be the “eyes and ears” of the consultancy on-site. You will support the Resident Engineer in ensuring that every pour of concrete, every steel placement, and every utility installation matches the exact technical specifications and quality benchmarks of the project. This is a high-responsibility role requiring a meticulous eye for detail, a deep understanding of UAE construction codes, and the ability to manage complex contractor dynamics. Key Responsibilities

• Supervisory Oversight: Act as the primary point of contact for daily site activities, ensuring that all work is executed in strict accordance with the approved shop drawings and Method Statements.

• Technical Inspections: Conduct rigorous inspections of work-in-progress (WIR) and material deliveries (MIR). Identify non-conformance issues and issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) when necessary.

• Safety & Quality Governance: Uphold the highest HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards, ensuring that contractors adhere to the project’s Safety Plan and Abu Dhabi’s OSHAD requirements.

• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed daily site diaries and logs. Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for the Resident Engineer and the Client.

• Design Coordination: Review technical queries and Requests for Information (RFIs) from contractors, providing engineering solutions or escalating them to the design team as required.

• Contract Administration: Assist in the verification of progress payments and quantities, ensuring that the work billed reflects the actual physical progress on-site.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Experience: Minimum 12 years of professional experience in civil construction and site supervision (Consultancy side experience is highly preferred).

• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and a deep understanding of modern construction methodologies.

• Local Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM) regulations and international engineering standards (BS/ASTM).

• Communication: Exceptional report-writing skills and the ability to communicate fluently in English (Arabic is a plus).
