Tornado Group , a leading force in the UAE’s construction and infrastructure sector, is seeking a high-caliber Material Engineer to join our Technical Office in Abu Dhabi. This role is a strategic technical position that bridges the gap between engineering design, procurement, and site execution.

As a Material Engineer, you will be the “technical filter” for every component that goes into our projects—from high-strength concrete to intricate finishing materials. You will navigate complex technical submittals, ensuring that every vendor and product complies with the rigorous standards of Abu Dhabi’s construction codes and international benchmarks. Your goal is to eliminate project delays caused by material rejection and to drive cost efficiency through smart value engineering. Key Responsibilities

• Submittal Management: Prepare, review, and manage the technical submittal process. You will be responsible for ensuring that all data sheets, test certificates, and compliance statements meet consultant requirements.

• Compliance & Standards: Act as the technical authority on international standards ( ASTM, BS, EN, ISO ) and local regulations to ensure the structural and environmental integrity of all materials.

• Technical Office Coordination: Work seamlessly with the Procurement team to vet approved vendors and with the QA/QC team to align Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) with material specifications.

• Value Engineering: Conduct rigorous technical comparisons between suppliers and propose alternative materials that optimize costs without compromising on quality or safety.

• Logistics & Tracking: Maintain real-time material submission logs and track long-lead items to prevent site bottlenecks.

• Testing Oversight: Coordinate with third-party laboratories to review material test results and manage Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) once products arrive on site.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering .

• Experience: Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction, with a strong focus on technical office operations.

• Standards Knowledge: Deep familiarity with construction materials including concrete, steel, waterproofing systems, and finishing works.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD , ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), and MS Office.

• Attributes: Strong negotiation skills for consultant coordination and a meticulous eye for detail in reviewing technical documentation.
