Job Description: Lead Technical Risk & Safety Engineer
SEGULA Technologies , a global engineering powerhouse with 15,000 employees across 140 locations, is seeking a Lead Technical Risk & Safety Engineer to anchor our Energy & Life Sciences division in Abu Dhabi. As the world pivots towards energy efficiency and decarbonization, our Technical Safety team is the vanguard ensuring that the massive infrastructure of tomorrow is built on a foundation of absolute safety and risk mitigation.
In this leadership role, you will act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for high-stakes EPC projects across the GCC and MENA regions. You will not just manage risk; you will architect safety into the DNA of refineries, petrochemical plants, and energy hubs. From conducting advanced Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) to facilitating critical HAZOP/HAZID workshops, you will provide the technical oversight that protects both human life and high-value industrial assets. Key Responsibilities

Workshop Facilitation & SME Leadership: Lead and facilitate critical safety workshops including HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, PHSER, and ALARP assessments.

Advanced Risk Modeling: Execute and review high-level technical studies such as FERA, QRA, EERA, and ESSA . Develop frequency analyzes using Event Tree and Fault Tree methodologies.

HSEIA & Safety Cases: Lead the end-to-end HSEIA process and prepare comprehensive Safety Cases and Design HSE Cases for major energy projects.

Engineering Design Integration: Interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and HMBs to ensure safety requirements are integrated into plant layouts, Hazardous Area Classifications, and fire & gas detection systems.

System Validation: Prepare and validate Fire Water Demand calculations and SIL verification/validation activities.

Project Governance: Serve as the Lead Engineer on proposals and active projects, managing client interfaces, contract requirements, and document submission schedules.

Mentorship: Coach junior engineers and develop technical training materials for PHA and SIL methodologies.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience: 15+ years of Technical Safety & Risk experience specifically within EPC for the Oil & Gas / Hydrocarbon industries (Refineries, Petrochemicals, Fertilizers).

Technical Mastery: Profound ability to read and interpret complex P&IDs and PFDs is mandatory.

Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with ADNOC, SABIC, Saudi Aramco, or QE process safety standards is highly desirable.

Software Proficiency: Experience with tools such as PHA-Pro, PHAST, SAFETI, Detect3D, exSILentia, or BowtieXP .

Mobility: Based in Abu Dhabi with a willingness to travel across the MENA region for project assignments.
