Job Description: Engineer, Drilling Applications

MyPetroCareer.com is recruiting a Drilling Applications Engineer for a major energy operator in Abu Dhabi. This role is a specialized intersection of petroleum engineering and digital technology, focused on using advanced simulation software to optimize the mechanical and directional aspects of the drilling process.

As a Drilling Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for the “digital twin” of the well. You will perform critical pre-well modeling—including Torque & Drag (T&D) , Hydraulics , and Anti-Collision —to ensure that complex well paths are drilled safely and efficiently. During operations, you will monitor real-time data to provide corrective guidance, acting as the technical safeguard against wellbore interference and mechanical failures. If you have a passion for high-end engineering software and the precision of wellbore positioning, this role offers a high-impact career path in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrated Well Planning: Prepare comprehensive pre-well plans and engineering calculations, including BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) optimization and bit selection.

  • Anti-Collision Management: Implement rigorous collision avoidance strategies using industry-standard rules to manage wellbore proximity in high-density drilling pads.

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Provide technical oversight during active drilling operations, monitoring for torque/drag deviations, vibration, and wellbore positioning.

  • Advanced Modeling: Perform complex simulations for hydraulics, casing design, and vibration mitigation to prevent Downhole Tool Failure (DHTF).

  • Performance Analytics: Analyze offset well data and operational KPIs to recommend new technologies or procedural changes that improve “Rate of Penetration” (ROP).

  • Reporting & Knowledge Management: Capture “Lessons Learned” in detailed End-of-Well Reports (EOWR) to ensure continuous improvement for future campaigns.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years in Drilling Engineering, specifically within an “Applications” or “Optimization” focus.

  • Software Expertise: Proficiency in industry-standard well planning and engineering software (eg, Landmark/Compass, WellPlan, or similar).

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of BHA design, directional drilling principles, and anti-collision mathematics.

  • Communication: Fluent in English, with the ability to manage relationships with internal operations teams and external service providers.
