Job Description: Commissioning and Start-Up Engineering Specialist

Global Corporation (partnering with Hitachi Energy ) is seeking a high-caliber Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) Engineering Specialist to lead complex power infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. This role is designed for a technical expert who thrives at the intersection of construction and live operations, specializing in the high-stakes environment of electrical substations and power plants.

As a CSU Specialist, you are the final gatekeeper of asset integrity. You will lead the transition of power systems from “static” equipment to “dynamic” operational assets. Whether working on complex Brownfield upgrades requiring intricate permit-to-work coordination or Greenfield projects requiring end-to-end stakeholder management, your mission is to ensure that switchgears, protection relays, and control systems operate flawlessly. If you possess a deep understanding of protection logic, a commitment to zero-harm safety, and the leadership skills to manage third-party agencies, this role offers a premier platform within the UAE’s energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • On-Site Execution: Lead hands-on testing and commissioning for high-voltage switchgears and protection systems. Manage the transition from Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

  • Planning & Control: Develop and monitor comprehensive commissioning schedules to ensure project closure meets strict deadlines without compromising quality or safety.

  • Risk Management: Conduct activity-based risk assessments and implement mitigation plans using the Hierarchy of Controls . Perform regular safety observation tours to proactively eliminate HSE hazards.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare specialized Method Statements, commissioning procedures, and reply to technical comment sheets. Ensure all “as-built” mark-ups are accurately submitted for project documentation.

  • Stakeholder Orchestration: Serve as the primary Commissioning Lead, coordinating between clients, third-party testing agencies, and vendor service engineers.

  • Incident Analysis: Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any commissioning incidents and disseminate “Lessons Learned” to the wider operating unit to prevent recurrence.

  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all CSU activities strictly adhere to international standards (IEC/IEEE), contractual requirements, and Hitachi Energy’s core values ​​of safety and integrity.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering .

  • Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of specialized experience in the substation field .

  • Competencies: Mandatory client-side approvals (eg, ADNOC, TRANSCO, or EWEC) for testing and commissioning activities.

  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of protection relay logic and sequence of operations in power plants.

  • Added Advantages: OEM certification for specific equipment (eg, Hitachi, ABB, Siemens) and specialized relay-related training.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, risk assessment capabilities, and fluency in English.
