Job Description: Senior Applied Scientist (Oil & Gas Focus)

Are you a world-class researcher ready to apply the frontier of Deep Learning to the backbone of the global economy? G42, the UAE’s sovereign AI powerhouse, is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to lead generative AI and multimodal research specifically for the Oil & Gas sector in Abu Dhabi.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of heavy industry and “Stargate-scale” AI. You will move beyond academic theory to build foundational models that can “see” sub-surface reservoirs, “hear” acoustic anomalies in high-pressure pipelines, and “understand” complex engineering logs. As part of Inception (G42’s research arm) or AIQ (G42’s joint venture with ADNOC), you will be at the heart of the UAE’s mission to create the world’s most efficient, AI-driven energy value chain.

Your Technical & Scientific Mission

Multimodal Generative Research

• Multimodal Fusion: Develop foundational models that integrate disparate data streams—seismic visuals, sensor audio, and technical text—to provide a nuanced, “human-like” interpretation of industrial environments.

• Deep Learning Innovation: Design and optimize state-of-the-art Deep Learning algorithms for predictive maintenance, reservoir simulation, and carbon footprint reduction.

• Generative Design: Create GenAI solutions that can synthesize complex engineering scenarios or automate the generation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Scalable Applied Science

• Inference Optimization: Collaborate with engineers to ensure that complex research models are optimized for real-world deployment, balancing accuracy with computational efficiency.

• Prototyping & POCs: Conduct rapid Proof-of-Concept (POC) cycles to demonstrate how emerging AI trends (like Agentic Orchestrators) can solve high-priority challenges for energy majors.

• Collaborative Research: Work alongside a global network of researchers and academic partners to push the boundaries of what is possible in industrial AI.

Strategic Impact

• Domain Transformation: Translate business challenges from the Oil & Gas value chain into rigorous mathematical problems and high-performing algorithmic solutions.

• Technical Communication: Present high-level research findings and strategic AI roadmaps to both internal leadership and external industry partners.

What You Bring to G42

• Education: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

• Experience: 6+ years of high-level research and development in AI, with a proven track record of innovation (publications or product-led R&D).

• Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, and Audio Signal Processing.

• Framework Proficiency: Expert-level command of PyTorch and TensorFlow.

• Industry Context: Experience or a strong interest in applying AI to complex physical industries like energy, manufacturing, or environmental science.
